OTO, Iowa -- Genevieve C. Pierce, 91, formerly of Oto passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital. She had been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, since suffering a stroke in 1996.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in West Fork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Genevieve Charlotte Pierce was born Dec. 13, 1915, the daughter of William H. Kirkpatrick and Nellie Bell (Sierk) Kirkpatrick. She was raised in the Oto and Climbing Hill area and graduated from Climbing Hill in 1933. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Sioux City.

On Dec. 16, 1937, she married J. Earl Pierce in Elk Point, S.D. They owned and operated a trucking service in Oto for the next 52 years. After retiring, the couple was active in senior citizen activities and loved to go to dances. Earl passed away on Feb. 13, 2003.

She was a member of Oto United Church of Christ and was a past member of the Oto Mites Society and Rebecca Lodge. She also served on the local election board for many years. However, her real passion was cooking, particularly making breads, rolls and desserts.

She is survived by her son, Larry of Sioux City; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Clifton Weber of Cushing, Iowa; three nieces, Beverly McClure of Wisner, Neb., Bette Dean of West Chester, Ohio, and Judy Roose of Pella, Iowa; a nephew, Harlan Weber of Omaha; numerous cousins; and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Leonard and Floyd Kirkpatrick.
