Schleswig, Iowa—Catherine Joan Miller, 68, of Schleswig died Thursday, December 11, 1997 at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Miller was born July 29, 1929, in Smithland, the daughter of Frank and Nettie (Garved) Burkhart. She attended Rodney, Iowa and Smithland schools.

She married Russell Miller on August 23, 1945 in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Rodney and Danbury, Iowa, Mapleton and Schleswig areas. In 1990, they moved into Schleswig.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Gary and Vicky of Vinton, Iowa; a daughter, Christine Adkins of Schleswig; three grandchildren, Lori and Darrin Miller and Russell Adkins; and two sisters, Virginia Oregon and Sandra Linscott, both of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Carey Adkins.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
