Roy A. Noble, 73, of Elk Point died Monday, Sept. 7, 1992, at a hospital in Vermillion after a brief illness.

Services were held Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk point with the Rev. Gene Eidsness officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted. Anderson funeral home in Elk Point was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Noble was born June 8, 1919, in St. Louis, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. After completing 33 missions over Germany, he was stationed at the Sioux City Air Base and the bombing range south of Elk Point. June 8, 1947, he married Opal Johnson in Pensacola, Fla. He re-enlisted in 1946 and served until 1950. After his discharge, he returned to Elk Point where he was employed by the city of Elk Point until 1958. He then was employed with North American Manufacturing Co. (now Schaeff Inc.) in Sioux City until his retirement in 1985. He was employed part time at the Coast-to-Coast store in Elk Point. Mr. Noble was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point and IOOF Lodge 4 of Elk Point. He was a life member and former commander of VFW Post 915 of Elk Point.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lt. Col. Edwin Noble and his wife, Vicki of Oslo, Norway and Dr. Larris Roy Noble of Emporia, Kan.; a daughter, Laura and her husband, Michael Mehlhaff of Pierre, S.D.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Viola and Mier husband, Dr. Gene Silver of St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert.
