Mae Manley Peterson, 88, longtime Sioux City resident and former school secretary, died Saturday, March 21, 1992, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with Pastor Brenda Pierson-Pfeifly and Pastor John Hagberg of St. Mark Lutheran, officiating. A private burial was held in Logan Park cemetery under direction of Nelson-Berger Funeral Chapel, Sioux City.

Mrs. Peterson was born March 25, 1903, in Dixon County, Neb., the daughter of Tom and Lydia Manley. She attended schools in Dixon and Cedar counties and graduated from the Laurel (Neb.) high school in 1921. She graduated fromn Wayne State College in 1923 and taught country schools until moving to Sioux City in the 1930s. She then attended Nettleton Business Training School and worked for the Iowa state highway commission. She married Lloyd W. Peterson, April 5 principal at Woodrow Wilson junior high school from 1957 to 1971. Mr. Peterson died in 1974 in Sioux City.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Carpenter of Muinetonka, Minn., Robbie Adelman of Des Moines and Tom Peterson of Sioux Qty; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
