Ruby G. Cernohlavek, 96, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ruby Gertrude Cernohlavek was born July 8, 1906, in Cedar Bluffs, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Williams) LeGrand. She attended rural schools in Cedar Bluffs.

She married Joe Cernohlavek on Feb. 7, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Omaha, Neb., for two years and came to Sioux City in 1925 and had resided here since. Mr. Cernohlavek died Nov. 21, 1985, in Sioux City. Ruby was a homemaker.

She was a member of Free Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son, Merle and his wife, Ronelva Cernohlavek of Donna, Texas; a sister, Waunita Tower of Van Buren, Ark.; two grandsons, Randy and his wife, Trisha Cernohlavek of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dale and his wife, Shannon Cernohlavek of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
