Richard H. Fachman, 84, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Richard was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Frank and Zella (Billings) Fachman. He attended Sioux City schools, graduated from East High School. He attended Trinity College. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 40 years and was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He served as an A M First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Survivors include a sister, Joan Hein and her husband, Charles of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Mary Fachman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; eight nieces and nephews; and some cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank H. Fachman.

Pallbearers will be Jim Hein, Bill and Kevin Steussy, Frank Fachman and Nathan Steussy.
