26 March 2010SIOUX CITY -- Evelyn M. Stivers, 94, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at a Sioux City care center.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the City Cemetery in Yankton, S.D. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Randall Knuth of Hope Lutheran Church officiating, at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Evelyn was born May 1, 1915, in Utica, S.D., the daughter of Bert and Elizabeth (Braunesreither) DeJong. She lived most of her life in South Dakota, living in Watertown and Yankton. She moved to Sioux City in 1991.
She married Harland Stivers on July 6, 1935, in Yankton, S.D. Mr Stivers passed away on June 8, 1963, in Watertown, S.D.
She was baptized and confirmed in Martinus Lutheran Church in Utica, S.D. She enjoyed crocheting, watching NASCAR races, cards and dominoes. Everyone that knew her, loved her smile and sense of humor. While living in Westwood Nursing Home, she commented that it was the nicest place she ever lived.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judith and Edward Bohlman of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Lola DeJong of Yankton, S.D.; two grandchildren, Julynda and her husband, Ronald Kafka and Susan and her husband, Carl Hilliard, two great-grandchildren, Kristinna and her husband, Jose Sanchez and Elizabeth Hilliard; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James; five brothers, Alvin, William, Louis, Edward and Kenneth; and a sister, Pearl Lowe.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Kafka, Carl Hilliard, Ed Bohlman, Lee Goeden, Ronald Derby and Bob DeJong.
