Funeral services for Henry William Koster, 92, who died August 15, at Anthon, were held Thursday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church at Anthon. Burial was in the Midway cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home.
Rev. R. E. Snyder officiated at the services. Miss Vickie Thayer was organist, and Mrs. R. E. Snyder, soloist.
Pallbearers were Loren Eickhoff, Ted Fundermann, John Dose, LeRoy Wasmund, Jens Petersen, and Peter Jansen.,
William Koster, the son of Henry Koster and Matilda Butt Koster, was born on September 7, 1873, in Nordleda, Germany. He came to the United States in May, 1889, staying in New York for a year and a half before moving to Woodbury County in 1891, settling in the Midway area.
Mr. Koster married Katherina Jacobsen on November 27, 1897, at her parents' home near Midway. They were the parents of 11 children. They farmed in this area until 1942, when they retired and moved into Anthon. Mrs. Koster died in 1954.
Mr. Koster was baptized into the Christian faith on October 11, 1873, in Germany, and confirmed in the Lutheran church in 1888 in Germany.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Albert (Augusta) Hamann of Remsen, Mrs. Hans (Elsie) (Elise) Suhr of Correctionville, Mrs. Hans (Alma) Lamaask (Lamaak) of Denison, Mrs. Joe (Clara) Gotto of Correctionville, and Miss Eldora Koster of Anthon; three sons, Wm. Of Ida Grove, Walter of Correctionville, and Henry of Storm Lake; 20 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two infant sons, his son, Edwin, who died in December 1965, his parents, and four sisters.
