A Serious Charge
H. W. Hurd, a wealthy merchant at Climbing Hill, a small town 15 miles from Sioux City, was arrested and taken to Sioux City charged with assaulting his daughter, aged 23. He gave bond, but would remain in Sioux City until his hearing, as he would undoubtedly be mobbed if he returns home. Hurd has always been prominent in politics in that part of the state, and is one of the wealthiest country merchants in the county.
