Ellis F. King was born to Jay Cecil “Curly” and Freda C.J. (Harm) King on October 6, 1928 in Correctionville, Iowa, the sixth of six sons in a row, followed by one daughter.

After graduation from Correctionville High School, King served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. In 1949 he started his career at The Correctionville News under the GI Bill of Rights. After three and one half years he worked for the Laurens (Iowa) Sun newspaper for four and one half years, then at The Sioux City Journal for 20 years. Next was 19 years as sales representative for The Record Printing and Copy Center, also in Sioux City. Ellis retired in 1998.

King served in the Naval Reserve from 1960 to 1980 and was attached to the Seabees. In 1980 he transferred to the Iowa Air National Guard until retiring in 1985.

Mr. King and the former Alice L. Walling of Anthon, Iowa, were married November 29, 1951 in Papillion, Nebraska. Mrs. King taught county school near Anthon, Iowa, before becoming a home-maker.

They are the parents of one daughter, Ruth (King) Gernhart of Houston, Texas and one son, Craig King of Liberty, Missouri. The couple has three grandchildren, Tracy (Gernhart) Schaub and her husband, Dean of Harker Heights, Texas, Adam Gernhart and Sarah Gernhart both of Houston and one great-grandson, Dyson King Schaub.

Mr. and Mrs. King observed their 50th anniversary with two family dinners in November 2001 with all the immediate family and other relatives present.

They are retired and still living in Sioux City, Iowa.
