Brad Wayne Utesch was born August 27, 1953, at Schaller, Iowa, the second son of William and Mary Utesch of Washta. Brad attended grade school at Summit No. 2 until the 8th grade, which he attended at Cushing (Eastwood Community school). He graduated from Eastwood Community, Correctionville, in 1971. In high school, Brad was active in football, track, FFA, National Honor Society, Student Government, and 4H. He attended Iowa State University for the two year Farm Course, returning to farm in a partnership with his father, William, and brother, Craig, - ‘Triple U Ranch’.

Karen Dee Finzen Utesch was born February 11, 1953, at Sioux City, Iowa. Karen is from a family of six, a twin sister, one brother, and three more sisters. Her parents were William Finzen of Cedar Rapids and Delores Rohr Finzen Bahrke of Correctionville. Karen attended grade school till the second grade in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; then they moved to Correctionville, and she attended Eastwood Community school. Karen was active in basketball, track, softball, drill team, band, and annual staff. She graduated in 1972 from Eastwood, then attended Des Moines Area Community College for the one-year Secretarial program.

Brad and Karen were married June 22, 1973, in the Grace United Methodist Church, Correctionville, where Brad is a member. In 1974 they purchased a farm, 160 acres, one-half mile north of where they now live. They are the parents of three children: Amie Ann, born July 22, 1976; Brandon William, born July 22, 1978; and Kari Louise, born January 12, 1983.

They reside on the same farm Brad’s parents started their marriage on. Brad has charge of the feedlot records and is associated with Iowa State University in their record program for feeding cattle, which was featured in the Wallace Farmer in September 1983. He is a member of Woodbury County Cattlemens Association. Brad enjoys hunting and golfing.

Karen owns and operates a pre-school in Correctionville named ‘Tiny Tot PreSchool’. She enjoys sewing and cooking.
