Blanche (Zike) Stockwell

Blanche Stockwell was born May 17, 1880, at Osage, Iowa, and raised in Nebraska. She married Milton Stockwell, September 1, 1900, in Fairfax, South Dakota. They had seven children. Blanche died of blood clot in leg and heart condition, April 19, 1961, in San Francisco, California. Burial was at Floyd Cemetery in Sioux City. Nationality: German, English, Irish, Scotch.

Children: Bethy, born 1906, died December 19, 1908; Daisy Sturges, born, October 10, 1901, died April 10, 1938; Vida G Olson, born December 17, 1902; Clytie Linder, born January 1, 1909; Marjorie Jensen, born August 1, 1904, died prior to WWII; Bill Stockwell, born February 20, 1910, died ?; Donald Stockwell, born May 14, died ?.

Blanche’s father, Alexander Zike (roadmaster in Nebraska), born November 2, 1836, was married twice. He died February 28, 1928, at Norfolk, Nebraska, and is buried there. Blanche’s mother was Elizabeth Ann (Tripp) Zike, born February 23, 1800s (unknown), died 1920-21, Lynch, Nebraska. Blanche’s brothers and sisters: Steve, Elroy, Frank, Lydia (Zike) Roth, and Elizabeth.

Blanche attend Wayne State Normal, Wayne, Nebraska; and Knox County Institute in Nebraska. She was a teacher at Petersen district of Knox County, Nebraska, Craig District. She used herbal tea and tried homemade herbal medical remedies on family members. She was very knowledgeable in different things.

She had lived at 11531 Fairview Street by Grant School. Blanche had cooked some pies. The twins and Art stole the pies as they cooled in the window. She saw they were missing, caught sight of the boys and took off after them, chasing them from Hillcrest Park to East 7th Street in Sioux City. Blanche was right on their trail right behind the boys in pursuit. They ran in the house and hid under the bed. Vida did what she did best, to protect her boys.
