George H Steinhoff, 1859-1940, eighth child of Henry Christian and Julia (Yost) Steinhoff, married Elizabeth Eberle, 1855-1934, in Woodfield, Ohio. They came to Willow Township, in Iowa, and located on a farm along the foothills, three miles east of Holly Springs. Here he built a new set of buildings, including a nice, large house and a very modern barn. This was a very scenic spot.

Back in a hill, near the new home, he dug a fruit and vegetable cave. In the cave large pockets were dug and cemented. Each of the children was give a pocket for his needs. One pocket was for the minister of the German City Church, and was stocked for him.

George was especially known for his cherry and raspberry orchard. Each of the children was given cherry trees to care for. Again, the minister was included.

George and ‘Lizzie’ had four children:

1( Minnie, 1882-1925, married Charles Kilzer. Their children were Orrel and Alvin.

2( William, 1885-1968, married Iris Cox. Their children were Theo Bright and Marlyn Ganzhorn.

3( Rosa, 1890-1969, married loyd Beebe. Their children were Joyce Parkhill and Myrna Forney.

4( Freda, 1896-1936, who lived with and cared for her parents.
