The Sohm family were a conservative nature, raising gardens and raising chickens for meat and eggs; they butchered their own meat and canned or cured and smoke the meat. They farmed with horses until the 1950s; they fed cattle, raised hogs, milked cows, and raised sheep. The men liked to hunt and trap animals. This pastime has returned profit for their time and the younger generation now enjoys the hobby also. The Sohm women did a lot of sewing and quilting and a lot of cooking for the many family members. Most Sundays were spent together at one or the other of the homes, having Sunday dinner together. A favorite pastime for the whole family was playing cards. No gathering was complete without having lunch. This consisted of coffee and possibly cake, bread, jams and/or jellies, cookies, and sauce; plus home canned fruit such as cherries, peaches, pears, apples, and plumbs. Most of the fruit was raised in their own orchards.

The Sohm family has been a very close family and always supportive of each other and caring for each other.
