Mary, Noah, Susan & Ella May Snyder

Mary Snyder, the seventh child of James W and Freelove Melissa Snyder, was born January 18, 1851, in Potter County, Pennsylvania. She came with her parents to Woodbury County in 1865. She married William Henry Carson on December 19, 1869. Their daughter, Jennie Edith, was born December 16, 1871, at Holly Springs, Woodbury County, Iowa.

Jennie married Charles Edwin Henderson, October 8, 1889. They adopted a girl, Elsie Mildred Henderson, born May 2, 1903. Jennie and Charles lived on an acreage at 2600 Prescott, Sioux City, most of their wedded life, where they operated a truck farm. Elsie, called Mildred, married Merle Charles Liston, June 29, 1926, and they lived with her parents at this address helping them with the farm work. Their children were:
1( Mary Mae Liston, born April 4, 1927, in Sioux City, married Kenneth A Robertson;
2( Clara Belle Liston, born August 8, 1928, in Sioux City, married Leonard W Voss;
3( Merle Charles Liston, Jr, born June 17, 1931, married Thelma J Hollister. They live on the old home place at 2600 Prescott.;
4( Donald Paul Liston, born July 25, 1932, in Sioux City, married Dorothy Ann Day;
5( Joy Liston, born December 26, 1933, in Sioux City, married LeRoy E Barnes. Mildred is still living; she may be living with her son on the home place.
Noah Wilbur Snyder, the eighth child of James W and Freelove Melissa Snyder, was born December 2, 1854, in Potter County, and came with his parents to Woodbury County in 1865. He married Martha Ellen West of Denison, Iowa, on October 26, 1876. They lived in Holly Springs, later moving to Sioux City where Noah worked as a cattle buyer at the stockyards until he retired. He passed away October 26, 1915, and Martha died in June 1945. They were the parents of six children:
1( Charles Milo Snyder, born November 16, 1877 at Holly Springs, married Minnie Thompson;
2( James William Snyder, born November 17, 1879, at Holly Springs, married Sevilla Rancipher;
3( Mary Elsie ‘Elsie’ Snyder, born December 30, 1882, at Holly Springs, married Charles F Conlin and lived in Sioux City all their married life;
4( Leonard Samuel, born October 20, 1884, at Holly Springs and passed away when a small child;
5( George Wilbur Snyder, born May 11, 1889, in Sioux City, married Wilhelmina Gray;
6( Edith Pearl Snyder, born June 6, 1901, in Sioux City, married Elmer E Erickson. They now live in Bellingham, Washington. Elmer is a retired minister.
Susan Eltheir Snyder, the ninth child of James W and Freelove Melissa Snyder, born January 29, 1958, in Potter County, came with her parents to Woodbury County in 1865. She married Joseph C Clay, July 20, 1873, who was born in London, England. He homesteaded in 1871 near Climbing Hill and was one of the first white settlers in that vicinity. In 1878 they moved to Sioux City and lived at 520 Center Street. He worked for the Palmer Fruit and Candy Company for thirty-eight years. They had four children:
1( Argentine, called Argie, Melissa Clay, born July 10, 1874, at Climbing Hill, married Homer C Redd, in 1903; they had no children;
2( Louisa May Clay, born June 28, 1876, at Climbing Hill, never married;
3( John Hiram Clay, born September 27, 1878, in Sioux City and passed away at age one;
4( Charles Wesley Clay, born September 8, 1883, in Sioux City and passed away at the age of one year.
The family has all passed away with no descendants. They were members of the Whitfield Methodist Church.

Ella May Snyder, the tenth children of James W and Freelove Melissa Snyder, was born May 25, 1860, and came with her parents to Woodbury County in 1865. She married Edward S Tyler on July 27, 1879. They lived in Holly Springs for awhile, then moved to SIous City and lived there until moving to a farm near Homer, Nebraska. Their children were: Mabel, Royal, Byron, Myrtle, James, Alonzo, Samuel, Grace, Inez, Lois, and Vernon.

They moved to Oregon in about 1902. The parents are dead, but some of the children are still living.
