DelRay Schieffer was born December 26, 1938 at Fordyce, Nebraska, to Peter Joseph and Agatha Marie Uhing Schieffer, the youngest of six children. Peter was born at Crofton, Nebraska, and Agatha born at Bow Valley, Nebraska, September 21, 1901. Birth date of Peter was August 13, 1898. The family moved to Ponca, Nebraska, in 1944. DelRay was a graduated of Ponca High School.

On December 31, 1960, DelRay Schieffer and Ruth Marie Huot, daughter of Roger A and Kathryn Huot, were married at St Joseph’s Church, Salix, Iowa. They farmed at Ponca for four years, then moved into Sioux City. DelRay attended Morningside College and worked nights to support his growing family. In 1969 he graduated from Morningside, and the family moved to Bountiful, Utah, as he secured a position with H.E.W. In 1973 they moved to Denver. DelRay is Supervisory Staff Accountant with H.H.S. and Ruth is with Reich Printing Company.

They are parents of eight children: Mary, born October 13, 1961, in Sioux City; Susan, December 15, 1962; Theresa, January 3, 1964; Michael, April 23, 1965; Frances, June 15, 1968; (all born in Sioux City); Anthony, January 12, 1970, Salt Lake City, Utah; Arthur, December 27, 1972; and Gregory, March 24, 1973, Salt Lake City.

Theresa is married to William Michela. They are parents of a son, DelRay Joseph.
