Wilma Irene Washburn was born 4 October 1927 near Luton, Grange Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Elsie (McKnight) Washburn. She was raised on farms near Hornick and Anthon, Iowa, except for about three years as a pre-schooler in Plymouth County, Iowa. She graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1946. She was married 19 January 1948 at Anthon, Iowa, to Richard Eugene Pierick, born 192?, son of Barney and Tillie Pierick of Anthon, Iowa.

Rich and Wilma farmed near Anthon, and raised Greyhounds for racing. They were members of the Catholic Church at Anthon.

Wilma had been in delicate health from birth and spent quite a bit of time in University Hospitals in Iowa City. In 1950 she became ill, and died at the home of Barney Pierick, Anthon, on May 2, 1950. She is buried in Mount St Joseph’s Cemetery at Anthon.

Rich Pierick later remarried and had some children by his second marriage.
