Anton J H Petersen was born February 24, 1877, in Husum, Germany, the oldest son of a family of four, to Carson Petersen and Catherine Thies Petersen of Husum, Germany. Carson is buried at Midway Cemetery, Iowa. Anton came to America, Jones County, Iowa, at the age of fifteen. He worked as hired help on farms and he started farming for himself several years later. His first year’s wages were paid to his friend, Hans Ahrendsen who had sent him money for his ticket to America.

Christina Christiansen Petersen was born February 6, 1880, daughter of a family of nine children to Herman Christiansen and Maria Christiansen in Wallsbuel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Christian came to America, eastern Iowa area, in 1902. She worked as domestic help saving enough money to send to Germany for her four year old son. Martin, now deceased, who was later adopted by Anton.

Anton and Christina were married in Hale, Jones County, Iowa, in a Lutheran Church on January 5, 1905. They farmed in the Hale area for five years, moving to Battle Creek, Iowa, in 1910. Later they moved to the Anthon and Cushing areas. In 1943 they retired and moved to Correctionville.

To this union seven children were born: Augusta Johanna – Mrs. Oscar Wright, deceased; Freda Christina – Mrs Miner Mead, Dexter, Minnesota; Oscar Carl Petersen – Omaha, Nebraska; Alfred Christian Peterson – Indian Hills Care Center, Sioux City, Iowa; Olga Katherine – Mrs. Russell Ferry, Correctionville, Iowa; Anton Herman Peterson – Battle Creek, Iowa; Elmer Louie Peterson – Omaha, Nebraska.

Anton and Christina both were confirmed Lutherans in Germany and remained life long Lutherans. Both are interred in the Cushing Cemetery. Anton passed away September 28, 1959, and Christiana on March 27, 1953.
