Robert James Irwin was born on April 23, 1881, to George (a farmer) and Eliza Bryson Irwin. The birth was registered in the the district of Fivemiletown in theUnion of Clogher in the County of Tyrone, N I (Northern Ireland). He was christened in Slotmore, Ireland.

At the age of 19 years, in 1900, young Bob came to the United States, arriving in Ida Grove at the home of Will Fair. He then went on to Grandmeadow Township and went into a farming partnership with Johnnie Hall.

On March 8, 1911, he was united in marriage with Mary Ella Jones of Pierson, duaghter of Christy and Mary Hall Jones. The witnesses were Bell Jones, Mary Ella’s sister, and John Irwin, Robert’s brother. The officiating clergyman was Richard E Willis.

To his union were born a son, Robert Leland, October 28, 1912, and a daughter, Roberta Lucille, April 5, 1918.

In 1921, Robert and Mary purchased a farm tow miles north of Correctionville from John Irwin of Pierson, Iowa. In 1921, Robert and Mary and the two children moved to the farm he had purchased two miles north of Correctionville and farmed on that farm until retirement. They then moved into the town of Correctionville in 1948.

March 18, 1951, Robert passed away, and Mary passed away November 19, 1956.

Leland now owns the Irwin farm. Leland and Hertha retired and live in the town of Correctionville. Leland married Hertha Ahrendsen on July 26, 1935, and they have one daughter, Linda.

Lucille married Fred Todd, March 8, 1939, and they have a daughter, Colleen, and a son, Richard.
