Wayman Scott Howard, born 1858, was the fourth of eleven children, seven girls and four boys. His father, Wayman Leftric Howard, born 1823, moved to southern Illinois in 1835 at the age of twelve, with his parents. They had come from Tennessee. In 1836 they again moved to southern, Iowa, north of Burlington. This is where Wayman Leftric met and married Loretta C Downer in 1846. Scott was born north of Burlington in 1858.

When a young man, in 1879, Scott came to Moville to take a claim and bought another 160 acres from a man for a pony. He married Frances Inlay, whose father, Edgar Inlay, born 1842, a Civil War veteran, and mother, Esther Ann Scott, born 1848, had moved from Stoney Creek, New York, to Missouri Valley, and later to Salix. Then Edgar Inlay bought land south of Moville, where Frances and Scott met. They were married in 1889 at Whitfield Methodist Church in Sioux City. They made a house dug back into a bank, for warmth. Their children were:

Lulu Howard, born 1890, married Lloyd Hill and had two children, Keith and Ward. Keith Hill married Russel Kuchel; they live at Florence, Montana. Ward Hill married Joy Christianson; they live in Arizona.

Albert R Howard married Walter Rayman, Geddes, South Dakota. Their daughter, Norma Rayman, married Allan Anderson of Vermillion, South Daktoa. They now live in Webster, South Dakota.

Georgia Howard married Arthur Berglund of Lawton, Iowa; they now live in Flandreau, South Dakota. They had three children: Rev Howard Berglund married Edythe Griest, Philadelphia, and now lives in Fresno, California; Beth Berglund married Harold Ferris, Dayton, Ohio; Kenneth Berglund married Pat Kellen of Sioux Falls, now Rapid City, South Dakota.

Hubert Howard married Helen Bryant, Bronson, Iowa. They had: Walter, who married Betty Guth, Los Angeles, California; Donald, who married Dorothy Burt, Los Angeles; and Barbara Ann, who married Harold Hanson, Durango, Colorado.

Florence Howard married Glenn H Barto, Moville, Iowa. They had two sons, Vernon and Wayne. Vernon L Barto married Patricia Glascock, Hannibal, Missouri, 1969; their children are Glenn Joseph and Heidi Lee. Wayne Howard Barto married Dorothy Ann Lohse, Moville, Iowa, 1952. Their children are: Dennis Wayne, married to Julie Ann Pierce, Kingsley, Iowa, and father of Jayna Lee and David Dennis, Sioux City, Iowa; Linda Lorraine, married to George Kourpias, and mother of Jessica Lee Kourpias, Sioux City; Scott Allan, married to Elaine Hearing, Sioux City; Arleen Kay Barto Struve of Sioux City; and Eileen May, married to Randy Alexander, and mother of Andrew James Alexander, Whiting, Iowa.

Edith Howard, born 1906, married Merrill Van Norman, Moville, Iowa.
