Arvid Earl and Haroldine ‘Dee’ Rae Peck Hilliker

Arvid Earl Hilliker was born April 29, 1933, in Akron, Iowa. He lived in Akron with his parents, Mona (Martin) (about 1896-96 to 1943) and Waldo Irving Hilliker, 1891-1965, and his older sisters, Lois B Hilliker Willms. Earl attended Akron Community schools where he was active in basketball, band and baseball. He also likes to work with cars. He graduated from Akron High School in 1952. During his high school days he was employed with the grocery stores in Akron until he was drafted.

In August of 1952, Earl started steadily dating Haroldine ‘Dee’ Rae (Peck). She is the only child of Velda B (Lake), born June 5, 1911, in Durham, Missouri, and Harold Glen Peck, born October 13, 1912, in Sioux City, Iowa. Dee was born September 16, 1936, in Sioux City, where she lived until moving to a farm in West Akron, South Dakota. She attended the Akron community schools and was active in basketball, band and choir. Dee graduated from Akron High School in 1954.

On November 7, 1954, Earl and Dee were married at the Methodist Church in LuVerne, Minnesota. On December 27, 1954, Earl was drafted into the Army. Together they moved to Fort Carson, Colorado, where Earl had his basic training. After basics they moved to Fort Hood, Texas, where he attended cook school. Earl was a cook for the hospital detachment for the Army. From there they moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, and he finished the rest of the time at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

After the Army, Earl and Dee moved back to Sioux City and Earl went to work at the Zella shoe store. He worked there for eight years before starting work at Novelty Machine and Industrial Supply Company where he is currently working. Dee had been working at Sioux City Stationery and then at the Woodbury County Savings and Loan Bank.

On January 23, 1956, while stationed at Fort Chaffee, their first daughter was born. Born at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, at the Army hospital, Sherry weighed seven pounds, two ounces and was twenty-one inches long. She attended Crescent Park Elementary and Herbert Hoover Junior High schools where she was active in Girl Scouts, Choir and the Glee Club. Sherry was involved in the Pep Club at West High School where she graduated in 1974.

On September 24, 1983, Sherry married Michael Lee Hill at Whitfield Methodist Church in Sioux City. They live in Sioux City with her two children, Angela Rae and Ronald John Eaton, from a previous marriage.

On May 4, 1962, Earl and Dee had a second daughter, Nanette ‘Nan’ Kay. On February 14, 1981, she married Milton ‘Don’ William Cain at Crescent Park Methodist Church in Sioux City. On January 29, 1982, they had a son, Nicholas Paul, born at St Lukes Hospital in Sioux City.
