Daryl Dean Heimgartner was born September 6, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa. He is the youngest of three sons born to Ruben Edward and Florence Anna (Reinholdt) Heimgartner of Kingsley, Iowa. His brothers are Wayne Henry, born February 18, 1942, married to Judy Fitzpatrick from Kingsley; and Kenneth Ruben, born September 15, 1944, married to Marsha Madland from Inwood, Iowa.

Ruben, born June 5, 1916, at Hinton, Iowa, is the second son of Henry A and Katherine (Voegeli) Heimgartner. They were the parents of Albrik, Ruben, Elroy, Robert and Duane. Ruben’s grandparents were from Linthal, Canton Glaris, Switzerland. He married Florence on September 24, 1939, at Hinton, Iowa. Florence was born February 1, 1921, near Remsen to August and Anna (Miller) Reinholdt. They were the parents of Harry, Florence, Elmer, Clarence, Walter and Dorothy (Mrs Milton Rumohr). Her grandparents were born in Greifswald, Pommern, Germany, and Zenhusen, Holstein, Germany.

Daryl grew up on a farm seven and one-half miles northwest of Kingsley in Plymouth County and was active in Kingsley Kalf Krowners for seven years. Daryl graduated from Remsen Union High School in 1966. He attended and graduated from Gale Institute, Airline College, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Daryl took a job with Ozark Airlines in September of 1966. He was stationed at O’Hare Field in Chicago, Illinois until October 1968 when he was transferred to Sioux City.

Daryl married Sharon Louise Johns December 14, 1968, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The Rev H H Schuland officiated.

Sharon, born October 3, 1950, is the daughter of Delbert Gerald and Eva-Joy Alfreda (Thorne) Johns of Hinton, Iowa. Her brother is Dennis Duane Johns born July 3, 1948, married to Roxann Swanson form Decatur, Nebraska, and her sister is Linda Diane Johns born August 9, 1952, married to Robert Greene from rural Sioux City.

Sharon was raised on a farm near Hinton and was active in the H & L 4H Pals 4H club for six years. She was confirmed in 1964 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Sharon graduated from Hinton High School in 1968 and attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux City for six months. She was employed at Needham Packing Company for one and one-half years in the accounts payable department and has had part-time jobs at Bellas Hess drug department for two years.

Daryl and Sharon have three sons: Randall Dean, born July 4, 1969; Travis Scott, born January 2, 1972; and David John, born October 11, 1976. Randy and Travis have been active in Cub Scouts Pack 202 and are now active in Boy Scouts Troop 208. Both parents were den leaders and council members with Pack 202 for six years. Travis and David attended Joy Elementary School, where Sharon is a PTA board member, and Randy is a freshman at East High School.

The Heimgartners are members of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Daryl has served on the Board of Education of St Paul’s Lutheran School for seven years holding different offices during this time. Sharon is a member of a women’s circle and has taught Sunday school for several years. Randy was confirmed in 1983 from St Paul’s and is a member of the Youth Group.

Daryl has now been employed with Ozark Airlines for eighteen years. The last five years he has farmed his father’s land near Kingsley with his brother, Wayne.
