Katheleen McGee McKenna
By Fayann Hubert

Katheleen McGee came to the United States from Cork County, Ireland. Landing in New York, she made her way to Galena, Illinois, where it is believed she met and married George McKenna.

George and his brother, Willie, came from Cork County, Ireland, into Canada, and then down to Galena. In Darlington, Wisconsin, on the 20th day of October 1854. George made his mark, an ‘x’, and swore allegiance and fidelity to the United States. It is believed the family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, and then to Fairbault, Minnesota.

Willie McKenna, George’s brother, was married, but his family had stayed in Ireland. He lived with George for a time, but returned to Canada, and was not heard from again.

Later, Katheleen came to Iowa, to live with her children. It is believed George had gone to Canada.

Three sons were born to them: John married Justine Duchene, James married Mary Joachin (after her death, he married her sister, Rosella); William married Maderia Miller. Six daughters: Margret Bouvia (Peter); Mary Stahl (George); Annie Weidner; Nellie Pringle; Katheleen Quigley; and Susie Bassitt.
