William Loveridge, hatter and his wife, Temperance, left their home in the parish of Wool, Dorset, England around the mid 1650’s and set sail for America. They had received a patent from the Crown for land in New York State in 1653. They resided in New York State in 1653. They resided in various places before settling about thirty miles south of Albany, New York, where William lived until his death in 1684. William’s will was filed in 1683/4 in Albany, New York, and names his wife, Temperance, sons, Samuel and William, daughters, Hannah, Sarah and Temperance.

The land was turned over to William, Jr. It was up to him to pay the balance of 200 beavers due as payment for one of the land holders. Beavers were used almost as money in early colonial days. He married Margaret DuMond.

1691, the Indiana drove them form their home and lands and they went to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, for protection. William Loveridge, Jr, died there and his will of February 18, 1702, left his possessions to his wife, Margaret, and after her death to their living children who were: William, Waldron, Margaret, Temperance, Hannah, John and Sarah.

1n the 4th generation, Richard Loveridge, born 1722, married Chloe Pinny Case. Their children were: William, born 1752, Abijah, Sarah. William lived in Norris County, New Jersey, and enlisted to serve in the war of the American Revolution in the First Regiment Continental Line. He was a non-commissioned officer (see Pennsylvania Archives, 5th series, Vol II, page 361, National number 195405.)

The 6th generation, Richard Loveridge, born in 1779, married Ann Sharp, born October 1790. Their children were: Mary Ann, born April 18, 1812, died December 5, 1836; James, born March 6, 1814- died February 11, 1879; Morris, born February 12, 1816, died July 6, 1883, at Goshen, Indiana; Sarah, born March 3, 1818, died December 3, 1898; Eliza, born November 1819, died 1858; Phillip Welch, born November 26, 1820, died November 3, 1918; William David Sharp; Samuel; Martha; and Beers.

Morris married Margaret Grubb, May 17, 1837, in Knox County, Ohio and had four children, one of whom was Phillip, known as ‘Little Phil’.

Phillip married Catherine Smith, born in Pennsylvania, and had six children: Richard, Paul Redford, Marie, Don, Dan and Rena.

Marie Loveridge, 7th generation, married Frank Melville Hood on March 4, 1905, at Vermillion, South Dakota (see Frank Melville Hood). Their children were: infant stillborn 1907; Frances Mildred, born February 18, 1909 (see Lloyd H Fymbo); Loveridge, born April 2, 1912, died March 31, 1916.
