Johann Nickol Koehler was born September 30, 1882, on the Koehler home farm, Querenbach, Oberfranken, Bavaria, Germany, the sixth child of Georg and Elizabeth Zimmerman Koehler. He completed his education and special job training while still in Germany. In the spring of 1906 he with friends came to the United States, coming to Holstein, Iowa. Nick, as he was familiarly known by his family and friends, married in early 1912, to Katharina Soellner, the third of nine children of Johann and Rosina Beck Soellner. Katharina was born June 15, 1891, in Birk Ofr., Bavaria, Germany. Both Nick and ‘Trina’ were confirmed in the Lutheran faith, he at Muenchberg and she at Weissenstadt, Germany. Trina arrived in the USA in April 1910, coming directly to the Galva-Holstein, Iowa, area where she had relatives of both her parents farming.

Nick and Trina farmed a number of years in the Quimby, Iowa, area and it was here that their first three children were born. They returned to farm near Holstein before purchasing their own farm in Grant Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. ‘Nick’ served his community as a Grant Township school director and Triple A farm program director. They moved to their farm near Anthon in March 1920. Trina is presently a Sioux City resident. Nick passed away December 26, 1968, and rests in Memorial Park, Sioux City. They had observed their golden wedding anniversary with family and friends in 1962.

Five children were born to them, the latter two arriving after the move to Anthon. (I) Elmer George John, born December 28, 1912, married Naida Leone GoBell, daughter of Frank H and Ethel Nissen GoBell of Ota, Iowa, on October 20, 1940. Their home is Alta, Iowa.

(II) Almeda Bertha Katharina, born November 23, 1914, married Joseph N Cross, son of Joseph and Edna Hardy Cross of Anthon, November 23, 1934. They reside in Sioux City, Iowa. They have two children: John Joseph born June 7, 1935; and Marlys Janice born September 18, 1937. John J married Vicki Morton os Aurelia, August 4, 1958. Their home is Birmingham, Alabama, with their family: Candace, John, Jr, and Robin Heather. Maryls married David Hoon of Nashua, Iowa, June 16, 1962, and with their family, Laura Beth, Rodney Dean and Jennifer Kay, reside at Marion, Iowa.

(III) Orman Alvin, born October 28, 1916, married Dolores Kueck, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Keuck of Moville, Iowa, on October 5, 1952, and reside in Moville. Their son, Alan Eugene, born November 26, 1961, married Kimberly Zellmer of Moville, January 7, 1983, and they have a son, Joshua. Their daughter, Lanette, born November 29, 1963, is a student at University of South Dakota.

(IV) Edna Marie, born June 1, 1920, married Francis Phillip Dixon, son of John J and Vera Dixon of Anthon, Iowa, on May 11, 1938, and Edna passed away August 8, 1974. To this union twelve children were born, six sons and six daughters, namely:
(1)Helen Jeanette born November 2, 1938, married Lyle P Sapp of Omaha, Nebraska, September 5, 1959. They reside in Omaha. Their children are Lyle Gregg, Niel Everett, Jay Matthew and Christine.
(2)Robert Francis, born December 30, 1939, married Diane McDermott of Oto, Iowa, November 26, 1960, and reside at Glendale, Wisconsin. They have five children, Kelly Elizabeth, Kerry Ann, Eric Robert, Jill Patricia and Timothy Robert.
(3)Ralph Albert, born February 5, 1941, married Karen Smith of Mitchell, South Dakota, June 10, 1966. With their children, Scott Travis and Laura Marie they reside in Helena, Montana.
(4)Nickolas Vincent born March 5, 1942, married Josephine Steinbach of Creston, Iowa, May 1963. With their family, Damien, Magen, Domonic, Jason, Dion and Joshua, they live in St Joseph, Missouri.
(5)Joan Frances, born March 15, 1943, married Samuel R Walsh of Walthill, Nebraska, June 15, 1963. They with their three children, John Patrick, Erin Colleen and Susan Kathleen, reside in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
(6)Donald Raymond, born April 11, 1944, married Vicki Conover of Correctionville, Iowa, October 28, 1968. They and their children, Michele Lynn ‘Shelly’, Jill, and Kirk James, reside in LeMars, Iowa.
(7)Alice Marie, born February 10, 1946, married Fred Straub of Michigan, March 16, 1972. They with their youngsters, Kathleen and Benjamin, live in Spokane, Washington.
(8)John James, born March 29, 1949, married Linda Welte of Anthon, Iowa, December 5, 1970. They farm near Anthon. Children are: Peter Anthony, Christopher John, Lucas Joseph, a daughter, Leslie, and son, Nicholas James.
(9)Patricia Jane ‘Patsy’ born March 11, 1950, married Steven Moseman of Emerson, Nebraska, August 22, 1970. Their children are Chad Steven and Cher Patrice. The family lives near Hinton, Iowa.
(10)Mary Lynn, born January 5, 1952, married Steven Diamond of Anthon, Iowa, September 12, 1971. They with their children, Jennifer Lynne and Ryan, reside in Spokane, Washington.
(11)Michael Dennis, born August 26, 1956, married Lisa Reimenschneider of Pierson, Iowa, December 13, 1980. The family reside near Pierson, with their children, Kimberly and Kyle Phillip.
(12)Deborah Ann, born December 11, 1958, resides at Sheldon, Iowa.
(V)Edwin Carl was born April 4, 1922, and died March 27, 1980. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.
