Lloyd Herman Fymbo was born in Whiting, Iowa, March 22, 1908, the son of Nels and Freda Fymbo. (See Nels Fymbo.) He graduated from the Whiting, High School in 1926. He attended the University of Iowa wehre he took one year of business administration before entering the School of Denistry from which he graduating in 1932 with a D.D.S. degree. While in school, he completed R.O.T.C. program. He married Frances Mildred Hood, daughter of Frank and Marie Hood of Sergeant Bluff on December 31, 1930. The wedding was held in the sunparlor of their home with the Rev J D Wolcott officiating.
`Both were students at the University of Iowa. They completed their undergraduate work and Lloyd continued as a graduate student studying orthodontics under Dr Rose and dr Higley for his Master of Science degree which he received in 1933. Their first child, a daughter, Elizabeth Joan was born March 16, 1933, in the University of Hospital. That summer they moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where Lloyd opened his office in the Floyd Good building on 4th Street, between Crockwell and Michigan Streets (1983-4th Street, between D Street & E Street). Madonna Johnson was his dental assistant until 1938.
In 1937, Dr Fymbo built a new building on the corner of Mulberry and 10th Street (1983-5th & C Street). Pauline Goodwin was his assistant until he was recalled by the Army Reserve to serve one year at March Field in California. The bombing of Pearl Harbor brought the U S into the war and Dr Fymbo’s service was extended, serving thirty-three months overseas in the South Pacific (Australia and New Guinea). He was in the medical corps, attached to the 808 engineer unit of the Fifth Army Airforce.
Upon his return to the States, he was reassigned to Camp Plauche in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was discharged from the service in October, 1945, and returned to Sergeant Bluff where he resumed his practice. Donna Rogers was his next assistant. Mabel Feldtmann was his receptionist, bookkeeper, and assistant from January 1948 until his death, May 10, 1975.
Lloyd and Frances had five children: Elizabeth Joan (mentioned above), Connie Meredith, born February 24, 1936 on her grandfather’s birthday, Anne Frances, born February 21, 1938, Linda Kay, born April 16, 1947, and Stephen Lloyd, born July 15, 1949.
Elizabeth Joan graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1951, attended the University of Iowa, married John Millis 1956. They had three children: David, January 1957, Eric Shawn, November 1961, and Alex Darin, February 1968. Joan was killed in a car accident in August 1976.
Connie Meredith graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1954, attended the University of Iowa Dental School where she completed her course to become a dental hygienist. She married Richard Wylder in 1955. They had three chidren: Sherry Lynn, born April 22, 1956, Michele Anne, born March 2, 1959, Douglas Richard, born July 15, 1962. They were divorced in 1972. She practiced as a dental hygienist in the office of Dr J C Brandes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, until her marriage to Dr Clement O’Meara. They purchased the old C J Holman house in Sergeant Bluff and are in the process of restoring it.
Anne Frances graduated form Sergeant Bluff High School in 1956, attended Wayne State Teachers College and then transferred to Iowa State Teachers College. She graduated from there in June 1960 with a B.A. degree to teach art and home economics. Anne married Bruce Morrison in 1960. They had four children: Jeffrey Alan, born February 21, 1962, Gregory Bruce, born March 5, 1964, Laura Anne, born January 13, 1966, and Jay Edward, born September 5, 1972. Laura Anne was diagnosed as having acute lumphocytic leukemia in May of 1969. She lived until June 2, 1970.
Linda Kay graduated form Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in 1965, graduated form Iowa State University in 1970 and married Dixon Cameron Terry, son of Mr and Mrs D C Terry of Radcliff, Iowa, in 1971. They live in Greenfield, Iowa, and have two children: Willow Songe, born March 3, 1972, and Dusky Dixon Fymbo, born June 28, 1975.
Stephen Lloyd graduated from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in 1967, attended Iowa State University three years and then entered the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa in 1970. He graduated from Iowa University in 1974 and then attended the University of Minnesota where he completed orthodontic training in June of 1976. Stephen opened an orthodontic office in Sioux City in September of 1976.

The Fymbo famly has lived at 301 6th Street since 1935, one block north of the dental office and the school. Dr Fymbo was active in all phases of community life. He was a Scoutmaster, PTA President, American Legion Commander, 4H Leader, Sergeant Bluff Councilman and Mayor over twenty-five years, and M.E. Church Board Member and Chairman. Dr Fymbo died May 10, 1975 and is buried in the Whiting Cemetery.

Mrs. Fymbo served as founder-president of PTA in 1944, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Brownie Scout Leader, 4H Leader, Woman’s Club President, Sunday School Superintendent and Board member of the M.E. Church, and is still living at 301 5th Street.
