Joseph H Moreau was born August 23, 1898, in St Rosalie, Quebec, Canada. He came to Salix at the age of one year, with his parents Harmidas and Catherine Biron Moreau and two sisters. They are Mrs Bill ‘Alice’ Worth, now of Blackduck, Minnesota, and Marie (deceased). After moving to Salix, three more children were born: Ernest, Catherine (Nash) and Ellie, all deceased. Harmidas farmed and did carpenter work around the area. He died in 1946; Catherine died in 1954.

She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, at Salix, the Tabernacle Society, and also the Moose Lodge Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She had three brothers and four sisters, Electa died December 13, 1981.

Joe and Electa had five children: Mrs Martin ‘Catherine’ Trudell and Joseph O, both of Sioux City; Lyle, deceased; Arthur, of Fridley, Minnesota; and Mrs William ‘Bonnie’ Shreve, of Salix.

In 1945 Electa and Joe bought ‘Spina Café’ from Ethel and Leroy Spinharney. They owned and operated the café for many years, and leased it to others at times. At the present time Joe makes his home there.
