John’s grandparents were John and Margaret Connolly Flannery and Thomas B and Catherine Ryan Jones, early settlers in Dakota County, Nebraska.

Eileen’s grandparents were William and Clara Gibbs Lawrencson and William and Bertha Berkley Mustard. All were early residents of Monona County, Iowa.

John and Eileen met while he was a security guard and she worked at a defense plant in Sioux City. They were married on August 2, 1943. They lived in California for four years returning to Sioux City in 1947. Their son, Robert Joseph, was born August 7, 1946, while they were in California. Their daughter, Therese Marie ‘Terry’, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on August 30, 1947. John died on September 21, 1947, of a diagnosed case of polio. His death was just a month after the birth of their daughters.

Eileen raised her family and accepted employment with Culligan Soft Water in Sioux City in September 1958. She has just completed her 25th year with this company.

Robert was graduated form high school in Sioux City and immediately enlisted in the Air Force. He served eighteen months in Alaska and the rest of his four-year enlistment in Texas and Florida. Bob had two years of college in Alabama and at the end of that time he returned to Sioux City. He met Patricia Andersen and they were married, September 8, 1973. They lived in Hot Spring, Arkansas, where their daughter, Crystal Michelle, was born February 1, 1975. They then decided Bob go back to school and get his degree. They moved to Springfield, Missouri. They have lived in Texas, Florida and West Germany and are now back in El Paso, Texas, where Bob is an instructor on missiles. He is stationed at Fort Bliss. Chances ae they will be rotated back to Germany in a few years. Both Eileen and Theresa made two trips to Germany while Bob and his family were there.

Theresa Marie was graduated from high school and worked at two day care centers. After ten years at one center, she decided to pursue her education. She attended Western Iowa Technical Community College here in Sioux City. She is a ‘non-traditional’ student. She is the Stationary Engineer at Grace United Methodist Church near the campus of Morningside College here in Sioux City.

All of us keep busy with our jobs and church activities. Terry and I try to keep busy tracing our family trees and it proves to be both frustrating and fascinating. We hope by the materials printed in this book to make it easier for future generations.
