Arnold and Melinda Westphal Groepper

Arnold Groepper, son of Herman and Dora (Ericksen) Groepper, was born in Griggs Township, Ida County, Iowa, September 23, 1911. Arnold grew up on a farm in Silver Township, attended rural school for four years, and then went to school at Quimby Consolidated, where he graduated in 1930.

Melinda Westphal, daughter of Ferd and Betty (Dittmer) Westphal, was born in Battle Township, Ida County, Iowa, on April 25, 1913, and moved with her family to a farm in Rock Township, Woodbury County, at the age of four. She attended Cushing Consolidated School.

Arnold and Melinda ‘Linda’ were married December 12, 1934, at the Holstein parsonage. They established their home on a farm one and a half miles west of Cushing and lived there eight years. They purchased a farm in 1942 and moved there in 1943. It remained their home until they retired in Cushing in 1976.

Arnold and Linda are members of St John Luther Church in Cushing.

Elaine Groepper Bartels was born March 17, 1937. She married Albert Bartels from Danbury. They have one son, Scott, and live in Omaha, Nebraska.

Judith Groepper Reed was born on her father’s birthday, September 12, 1939. She is living in Redwood City, California. Judith has two children: Mike Bullock of Sanoma, California; and Brenda Pegnataro of San Mateo, California. Brenda has a daughter, Sannon, age two.
