Harold O’Donnell Hartman

Harold O’Donnell Hartman, son of Y A Hartman, was born June 7, 1899, in Chicago, Illinois. He died November 17, 1966, in Sioux City, Iowa, and is buried in Logan Park Cemetery there.

Although born in Chicago, he spent a good part of his youth in St Joseph, Missouri. He was educated in a Catholic School and was graduated form a Catholic High School in St Joe, Missouri. He loved recalling and telling stories about his life in rural Missouri.

He was trained as a printer and was employed by his father in his early days, at the Livestock Record. Besides helping print the paper, he wrote stories and poems under the by-line of Ob-Zervum. He also wrote the columns on movie shows and any other activities that were in town. When the Record closed he worked at various jobs, most of which involved printing. He worked in Cedar Rapids, Chicago, and Omaha.

He retired to Sioux City where he spent his retirement years writing editorials and feature stories, some of which were printed in the Sioux City Journal.

Harold Harman was married to Henryetta Constance Thorn in Minnesota. They had the following children: Alva Jeanette (Mrs Orville Sherman), who has four daughters, Bernita, Lori, Jeanette and Judy; Margaret Constance (Mrs Walter Koster), whos son James is deceased; and Clarice Elaine (Mrs Lester Fischer), who had seven children, Gary, Rita, Mona, Joan, Mark, Coni and Glen.
