Everett and Leona Fern Ford Harrison
By Loraine E WashburnEverett Harrison was born 11 July 1907, on the Harrison Farm, Section eleven, Banner Township, in the tenant house where he still resides. Except for about five or six years he has spent all his life thre. He was the son of Oscar and Laura (Walker) Harrison. He went through the eighth grade at Banner No. 1, and started high school at Moville. A horse he was riding fell with him and broke his leg, and he never returned to school. He was married 23 April 1928 at Sioux City to Leona Ford. He farmed for several years, and in 1940 he entered into the Oliver Machinery business in Sioux City, which he sold in 1955. Most of the next two years he spent helping his brother, Tom, on his farm near Craik, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Returning to Banner Township, he worked on the Robert Padel farm in Section ten for two years, and then for two years at Brown’s Garage at Hinton, Iowa. He then worked for Tom Flewelling of Moville, driving a gravel truck, and two years for Park Dailey Lumber Company, doing construction work in North Dakota. Following this he worked for his son, Don, on Harrison farm, and continued this part time, after his retirement. Everett enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Leona Fern ‘One’ Ford was born 11 June 1908 on the J A Wright farm in Section two of Banner Township, the daughter of Bertha Wright and Charles Ford, and descended from both Hannah and Alexander Harrison, son and daughter of Joseph Harrison and Bersheba Oglesby. Everett is a descendant of Joseph and his son, Alexander, making Everett and Onie distant cousins. Onie’s father was employed in Sioux City until 1915, when the family moved to Moville, where he was sexton of Arlington Cemetery until retirement. Onie was a graduate of Moville High School. She enjoys stamp collecting and crochet.
Everett and Onie are parents of five children, all born in Woodbury County, and educated in Banner Township and Lawton High School.
Donald Allan, 20 December 1928, the only one of five living in Woodbury County, is a mechanic and farmer, and now owner of the Harrison farm in Section eleven of Banner Township. He was married 6 August 1947, at Sioux City, to Marian LaVonne Washburn. She was born 12 October 1925 in Grange Township, Woodbury County, and was a teacher. They had three children. Pamela Mae, 27 February 1949, a Home Economics teacher, was married 22 July 1972 at Lawton to Glenn R Clark. They have three children: Christopher, 1976, Sharalyn, 1977, and Charles, 1980. They live north of Moville; Nancy Ann, 21 November 1957, was a music teacher is now working in the field of electronics in Minneapolis; Marla Jo, 14 January 1957, was married 4 September 1976, at Harrison farm, to Tony Grigg of Lawton, they live in California. He works in electronics, she in nuclear medicine.Carol Ann Harrison, 24 November 1930, was a teacher, and was married 3 August 1952 at Moville to John Robert Green, USAF retired; they live in Virginia. Carol did some office work after her marriage. They were parents of three children, Teresa Lenore, 1953, Rita Gay, 1955, and Deborah Kay, 1957. All the girls are married, and Carol has several grandchildren.
Morris Ford Harrison, 28 February 1932, is Territory Manager for Oliver Corporation, now owned by White. He had served in the Marine Corp after graduation. He was married 11 March 1956, Moville, to Delores I Countryman, 30 July 1934, Moville, the daughter of Dell and Millie (Hendricks) Countryman. Delores is an office worker. They have been residents of Sioux Center, Iowa, for quite a few years. They are parents of four children, all born in Omaha. The eldest three are married and Morris has some grandchildren. The children are Kathleen, 1957, David, 1959, Laurie, 1961 and Robert, 1962.
Dale Everett Harrison, 6 June 1933, served briefly in the army, and received a medical discharge. He had been employed in the field of veteranary medicine as a layman for many years. He was married 22 August 1954 at Lawton, Iowa, to Norma Jean Bush, duaghter of Raymond Bush and Sophie Baack, longtime Woodbury County residents. Norma has been employed at a bowling alley in Omaha, where the family has resided most of the years since the couple was married. They have six children, all born in Omaha: some are married and Dale has some grandchildren. The children are Dalene, Steven, Lee, Doreen Jean, 16 June 1960-25 April 1962, of complications from spinal meningitis she suffered in infancy; she is buried in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Deanna, 1961 and John.
Shyrl Eileen Harrison, 4 July 1934, was married 5 July 1953, to Russell Daniel of Plymouth County, the son of John and Gladys (Porsch) Daniel, and a nephew of Mrs Ben (Clara Porsch) Harrison. Shyrl has been a long time employee at a bank, and Russ works in the field of office machine repair. They are residents of Merrill, Iowa, and the parents and Shyrl has some grandchldren. Their children are Cherie, Rodney and Audrey.
