Jess and Katie Ellis
By Opal Blanche EllisKatie was born Catharine Elizabeth Beaver on May 29, 1889. She was the first child born to Aaron and Allie (Winterringer) Beaver. She was born on a farm near Peiro in Grant Township. Katie attended the Grant Township # 9 School.
Jess Ellis was born to Jesse W Ellis on November 3, 1884. His parents were Franklin and Sarah (Broadstone) Ellis. He was born on a farm four miles west of Craig in Burt County, Nebraska.
Katie and Jess were married February 24, 1909, at Onawa, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed around Anthon, Oto, and Smithland most of their lives. They had three daughters:
Opal Blanche Ellis was born February 24, 1910. (See Opal Blanche Ellis.)
Wilma Irene Ellis was born March 3, 1913. She married Donald Sappingfield on June 18, 1968. (See William Ellis and Don Sappingfield.)
Loretta M Ellis was born April 2, 1920. She married Robert Daniels on December 4, 1939. They have four children. (See Loretta Ells and Robert Daniels.)
In 1944, Katie and Jess moved to Sioux City, just outside of the city limits on Highway 20, now Correctionville Road.
They celebrated their golden anniversary with an open house in the parlors of Morningside Baptist Church, 809 S Alcie Street, on Sunday, February 22, 1959.
Jess passed away August 14, 1969, after a short illness. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Katie had been in a rest home since February of 1978. Her death was on October 21, 1983.
