Patrick Dunn was born in Albany, New York in 1845. When he was nineteen years old he came west and worked in the cotton gins in the southern states. He then followed the California gold rush, also working in gold mines in Nevada and Utah. In 1874, he came to Iowa and purchased 160 acres of land in Monona County for $8.00 an acre. He married Anna Cleary in 1881. To this union twelve children were born. In 1910, they sold their Monona County farm, retired to Salix and bought a farm, where Dave Dunn now resides.

Their children were Mary, Catherine, John, Edward J, Thomas, William, Edward S, Franklin, Steven, Charles, Marguerite and David. Patrick died in 1927 and Anna in 1935.

Catherine married John Malloy; their children: Bessie, Tom, Anna Marie and Paul.

William married Mary Dahl; their chidlren: William, Jr, Dixie and Ruth.

Frank married Maggie Mulvihill; their children: Frances, Edwin, Mary Margaret (deceased), Bernice, Donald, JoAnn and Pauline.

David married Eva Kennett. Dave is the only living member of the twelve Dunn children.
