Richard Millard Dott and Delia Rood Dott moved to Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, in the fall of 1889, ‘to grow up with the city’.

Richard was born in Anamosa, Iowa, April 12, 1858. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1884, practiced law in Alexandria, Dakota Territoty, and was elected County Attorney of Hanson County in 1886.

Delia Rood was born in Lapeer County, Michigan, Janaury 30, 1863, and studied two years at the University of Michigan (1880-82) where she met Richard. They were married in Lapeer, September 29, 1885.

They both were active in the Sioux City First Presbyterian Church, and Richard was active in civic affairs. He served on the School Board several terms, beginning in the the early 1890’s; he was Secretary at the time the ‘Castle’ on the Hill was built. He compiled a pictorial Souvenir of Sioux City, Iowa, published in 1899. Among other civic activities, he served on the police and fire departments’ Civil Service Commission in the 1910’s.

Children of Richard and Delia Dott were: Agnes, July 4, 1886-July 24, 1974; Maude, October 8, 1887-November 9, 1953; Robert Henry, January 8, 1896; and Richard Rood, November 26, 1900-August 12, 1902.

Agnes marreid March 24, 1914, to A W W Johnson, born January 18, 1886, died March 8, 1969. Their children: Richard, Robert, Ruth, Ina and Hazel. Richard Walter, born December 23, 1914, married Una M Heikes, born October 15, 1922. Their Children: Thomas Lyle, born June 9, 1950; Patricia Fae, born September 5, 1951. Delia Katrine, born May 27, 1916, married George W Bigelow, born February 22, 1911. Their children: Robert George, born May 17, 1942; Jenne Mildred, born August 20, 1944; Randolph W, born November 8, 1948. Divorced. Robert Dott, born October 3, 1917, married Flora E Beaudry, born November 22, 1914. Their child: Peggy Ann, born February 15, 1951. Ruth Agnes, born October 11, 1920, married (1) Edgar C Carpenter, Jr, born July 7, 1923, killed in action, South Pacific, April 18, 1945. Their child: Sharon Lee, born July 15, 1945. (2) Paul G Gniffke, born March 18, 1921. Their children: Paul Arthur, born Octobe 17, 1947; and Jerry Richard, born March 16, 1950. Ina Elizabeth, born July 25, 1923, married Melville A Larson, born January 7, 1922. Their children: James Alan, born August 21, 1948; Mary Paula, born August 27, 1955; and Russel, Hazel Maude, born August 12, 1925, married Tom E Eagling, born September 30, 1924. Their children: Katrine Annette, born December 17, 1950; Marilyn Maxine, born December 7, 1952; David Tom, born May 30, 1956.

Maude married October 19, 1916, to Richard Hughes, born July 22, 1889, died June 7, 1960. Their chidlren: Marian, born June 1, 1926, married Charles E Jones, Jr, born April 3, 1924. Their chidlren: Barbara, born March 13, 1956; Margaret, and Catharine.

Robert Henry married December 23, 1922 to Esther E Reed, bornMarch 24, 1893, died August 10, 1982. Their children: Esther and Robert Henry, Jr, Esther Reed ‘Bobette’, born April 17, 1926, married Stuart Frederick ‘Fred’ Bird, born April 15, 1923. Their chidlren: Deirdre Margaret, born January 17, 1949; and Marilyn Dott, born June 7, 1956. Robert Henry, Jr, born June 2, 1929, married Nancy Maud Robertson, born September 20, 1929. Their childen: James Robert, born June 17, 1954; Karen Elizabeth, born June 20, 1956; Eric Richard, born July 12, 1958; Cynthia Elaine, born December 12, 1961; and Brian Russell, born December 8, 1964.
