Samuel Laurie Dean was born October 16, 1810, in the Cumberland Mountains in Bledsoe, Tennessee. We have no information about his childhood.

On September 24, 1835, Samuel married Juliann Hahn (born September 1, 1817, near the Manse River in Ohio). Eleven children were born to them. They were Joseph H (1836-unknown); John (1837-1900); George W (1839-1858); Abigail (1840-unknown); Aaron (1841-1865); William Jasper (1842-1911); Mary Ann (1844-1885); Isaac C Newton (1847-1909); Dorcas (1852-unknown); Francis Marion (1854-unknown) and Joel (unknown-1862).

William Jasper Dean was born in Knox County, Illinois, on June 29, 1842. Upon becoming a young man, he married Martha Ann Jones on August 5, 1868. They had one child, Venona May (1870-1931); born near Galesburg, Illinois.

When Venona May was eighteen months, her mother died. Then a Mr and Mrs Bert Suell took Venona May and cared for her, wanting to adopt her. However, on August 16, 1872, when Venona May was about two and one-half years old, her father married Mary Nancy Sarah Goff (1845-1881); and Venona May went to live with them. Three children were born to this marriage. They were William Harvey (1874-unknown), Cora Almira (1876-unknown), and Frank Edward (1879-unknown).

On March 3, 1881, Mary Nancy Sarah died. Venona May was eleven years old.

At this time, Grandpa and Grandma Dean (Samuel Laurie and Juliann) took Venona May and William Harvey to live with them. A Mr and Mrs Pratt adopted Cora and Frank.

Sometime during the next few yers Venona May moved to Page County, Iowa (near Shenandoah) with her Grandpa and Grandma Dean, and lived them until she was fourteen years old. Then she went back to Illinois and kept house for her father until 1887, when she was seventeen years old. At this time Venona May roade on the stagecoach to Climbing Hill, Iowa, where she lived with her Grandpa (Squire) and Grandma Jones until she was twenty-four years old.

It was during this time that Venona May met John Will Glover. They were married on February 20, 1894, at the First Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Reverend Strickland performed the ceremony.

Venona May and John Will lived near Bronson, Iowa, for six years, where two of their children were born. They were Iva Frances (1895-1981) and Ernest Ray (1896- ).

In 1900, Venona May and John Will purchased a farm two and one-half miles northwest of Lawton, Iowa. Two more children were born to them here. They were Ethel May (1902-1975) and John Harrison ‘Jack’ (1904- ).

Iva Frances married John Paddock. They had five children: John Elliott, Raymond, Carmine, Wesley and Bonnie.

(Ernest) Ray married Gertrude Johnson. They had six children: Venona, Esther, Ernest ‘Bud’, Jay, Ricchard and J W ‘Bill’.

Ethel May married Herman Rock. They had three children: Venona Louise, Ethel ‘Mina’ and Jim.

John ‘Jack’ married Marie Walker. They had one child, Fannie.

Venona May Dean Glover passed away on January 9, 1931, at the age of sixty years.

John Will Glover died on March 27, 1965. He was ninety-four years old.

Many memories come to mind of all the good times at the Glover home – memories of lots of company, laughter, practical jokes, group singing, meals around the huge family table, and more – all priceless treasures of a family’s heritge.
