Cyrus George and Lura Ann (Robinson) Casey
By Brad SmithCyrus George Casey was born in Ohio in May of 1854. He married Lura Ann Robinson at Harlan, Iowa, on December 25, 1879. Lura Ann had moved with her parents to Harlan when she was seventeen years old. She was born May 28, 1858, at Mechanicville, Cedar County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Theresa Robinson. After their marriage, they lived at Harlan a short time, then moved to a farm southeast of Correctionville. They lived on three other farms before retiring to Correctionville in 1922.
Cyrus George hauled the lumber from Battle Creek to put up the buildings on their first farm. He was school director for yars and Mrs Casey, with a large family had the privilege of boarding the teachers. Lura was a charter member of the Correctionville Church of Christ, and a charter member of L.C.S. Club, the last charter member to pass away. He passed away April 5, 1935, and Lura, November 9, 1954.
Eleven children were born with three daughters dying in infancy. They were Eva Cecil, Alice Blanche, James W, Charles William Lee, Ethel M, Ralph and Lloyd E.
Cecil born December 1880 married Walker O Binkley and lived in Pierre, South Dakota. She later married Alva Coon. Her children were Arlos, Lois, Wanda and Wilma.
Blanche, born July 14, 1882, remained at home and cared for her aging parents and her brother, Lee, who never married. She died July 26, 1966.
Ralph Emerson, born March 30., 1890, lived on the family farm until retiring to Correctionville in 1939. He married Inez Boles, July 5, 1945.
Ethel, born March 30, 1894, graduated from high school and taught school, traveling with team and buggy, hired from Rube Ward. Ethel married Jim Cockburn, born June 10, 1892, on December 25, 1922 at Onawa, Iowa, and lived on a farm near Correctionville. Their first child, Laurace, died in infancy. Their sons are George, Dean and Dick.
Charles Casey, born September 10, 1886, married Naomi ‘Amie’ Tuschoff, September 18, 1912. Their children are Aletha, Lura, Roger, Russell, James and John. Aletha passed away May 3, 1969, and Lura Lou on August 15, 1955.
Lloyd born June, 1898, graduated in 1916 and attended Iowa State College and Colorado A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. During World War I he served in Europe as a veterinarian with a cavalry unit. He practiced in Dallas, Texas, becoming extremely successful. He and his wife, Corrie, raised the first champion Boston Terrier in Texas. He was a charter member of the Texas Kennel Club and served as veterinarian for the State Fair of Texas and The Arlington Downs Race Track. Lloyd and the former Corrie Chandler had one daughter, Patricia, Mrs A Harrison, Dallas.
James, born April 1884, attended chiropractor school, practicing his profession for a shor time as he died at the age of thirty-three in San Diego, California.
Cyrus George and Lura Ann are interred at the Correctionville Cemetery.
