Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Decorah Lutheran Church.
Jolayne was born on April 5, 1947, in Postville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Margaret (Snitker) Kamp of Castalia, Iowa, sister, Karen Pearson and brother, Gary Kamp. Jolayne is survived by her husband, Darrell Winkie; her children, Kimberly (Kip) Mahon and David (Dawn) Winkie; step-grandchildren, Kristen Thornton (Cody), Hunter Mackenburg, Hailey Mackenburg and nephews, Trent (Renee) Pearson, Todd Pearson (Sarah Brokaw) and Kevin (Shelley) Kamp.
In September 1965, Jolayne married the love of her life, Darrell Winkie. Shortly after her marriage, she obtained her cosmetology license. She worked as a hair stylist in Decorah for many years and eventually became owner of Hairstyles Unlimited. Her customers were an extension of her family. Jolayne’s greatest passion in her life was relationships with family, friends and neighbors. Nothing was more important than being a loving, caring wife and mother to her family and she loved all of her family very deeply. Jolayne was always charitable with her time for those in need during her life. Along with her husband, Jolayne was a devout member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
Besides Jolayne’s love of family, she got great pleasure from cooking and baking. She had hundreds of recipes in her head and during her younger years she always had her freezer full of homemade coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, donuts, bars, bread, lefse - you name it, she had it. Jo would like nothing more than to sample and share her sweet treats with someone to include a cup of coffee.
The family of Jolayne Winkie welcomes memorial donations to Winn-Med Hospice, Decorah Lutheran Church or the charity of choice. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Eastern Star and Accura Healthcare for their compassionate care and support.
