DEATH’S TOLL.

On Monday Miss Martha Simpson received a telegram announcing the death of Mrs. Mae Simpson-Wheaton at the Wheaton ranch near Dexter, New Mexico. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis. It will be recalled by friends of Mrs. Wheaton that she visited Decorah with her husband last summer. Shortly before leaving for the north their only son was called to serve with the Texas troops on the Mexican border. When nearing Kansas City on the trip north Mrs. Wheaton sustained a stroke which was then attributed to worry over her son. Just when the second stroke was sustained is not known but her death occurred Sunday night.
Mrs. Wheaton was the only daughter of Col. and Mrs. James E. Simpson, well remembered early day residents of Decorah. She was born in Decorah on December 30, 1866, and was married twenty-four years ago to Thomas W. Wheaton of Norfolk, Neb. Besides her husband and son her nearest surviving relatives are her brother Chas. Simpson of Orleans, Neb., and her aunt Miss Simpson of Decorah.
Mr. Wheaton left Dexter Tuesday night for Decorah, with the remains, which will be interred in the Simpson lot in Phelps cemetery.
