G. BRATFOS DEAD.
Death Came to Him While Sleeping Tuesday Night—Was in His Usual Health When he Retired.
G. Bratfos, the old man who for many years has been doing clock repairing and general light tinkering in the building next west of Willis U. Ness’, was found dead in his room by his sister Wednesday morning. He had retired Tuesday night feeling as well as usual and about 11:00 o’clock his sister went into his bedroom to see if he was all right, as was her custom, and found him sleeping quietly as usual. Yesterday morning she called him for breakfast and as he did not respond she went into the room to see what was the matter. She found him dead, lying just as he was when she saw him the night before. The neighbors were notified but of course there was nothing to be done. It was evident that he had died some hours before for rigor mortis had set in, and that death came suddenly and painlessly for his face bore a peaceful expression as if asleep. He had not been in robust health for some time but this was attributed to his advanced age and nothing serious was apprehended. No inquest was held and the exact cause of death is not known, but Dr. Stabo was called and after an examination he was of the opinion that the cause was a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Bratfos was born in Solus, Norway, in the year 1837, and came to America and Winneshiek county in 1864. He never was married and his sole surviving relative is his sister Gustava Bratfos.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Feb. 5, 1837 and died Feb. 21, 1917. He is buried in the Lutheran Decorah Cemetery. Gus gravestone shows the name spelled Bratfoss.
