On Wednesday evening, Feb. 7, at 6:30 G. A. White passed away at his home at Mabel, Minn. Mr. White had not been enjoying good health for some time past but had kept busy at work and his condition was not regarded at all serious until about a week previous to his death when he became confined to his home and the family physician was called in. On Tuesday his condition commenced growing rapidly worse and his death the following day was a shock to one and all. Mr. White was a man of sterling character and an ideal neighbor and friend and his death will be sincerely mourned by many friends. He leaves a devote wife, two sons, one daughter, besides other near relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:30 o’clock from the home and at 1200 from the M. E. church at Mabel.Source: Decorah Republican Feb. 22, 1917, P7 C1
Geo. Abram White was born September 2, 1855, in Chippawa county, Wis. He died Feb. 7, 1917, aged 61 years, 5 months and 5 days. With his parents, William C. and Betsey White, he came to Winneshiek county, Iowa, in the spring of 1865, where he lived for some years. He was married to Ada L. Darling, Sept. 2, 1880. They resided in Hesper for some time and there were born the two oldest children Alta G. and Bernard Lester, the latter of whom died in infancy. In 1887 they moved to Parker, S. D., where Leslie and Wilfred were born. They returned, settled in Mabel, Minn., in 1902, where they have since resided. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Beside the immediate family, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Ida Stenger of St. Marie, Idaho, Mrs. Jennie McLaughlin of Pasadent,{sic} Cal., Mrs. Vinnie Taylor, Bow Island, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Josie Antrim, Montrose, S. D., and three brothers, B. M. White of Hesper, Iowa, Frank White, Kevin, Mont., and Wm. White of Eyebrow, Saskatchewan, Canada. Mr. White was taken with la grippe the 23rd of January and for some days seemed to be in no immediate danger, but complications set in and on Tuesday evening consultation was held and a message sent to Alta and Leslie, but owing to blockade, they were unable to reach here before he passed away on Wednesday evening. The community has lost an honest, upright citizen, the church an active member and a willing worker, and all will m[ss his kindly presence and friendliness.
