MRS. F. G. MALTBY DEAD.
Former Hesper Township Resident Passes Without an Instant’s Warning.
Word was received last Friday morning by Decorah relatives that Mrs. Frank G. Maltby had passed away the evening previous without the slightest premonition. During the afternoon she had been in attendance at the meeting of a society. At about 9:30 she was making preparations to retire for the night and sat down to warm herself for a moment at a register. While sitting there her head suddenly dropped back, and she was gone, without a word or any sense of pain. Her husband was with her at the time, he immediately called for help from near neighbors who responded at once, a doctor was called and was soon there, but it was quite evident from the first that she had gone beyond earthly aid.
The REPUBLICAN is indebted to the Northfield, Minn., Independent for the particulars of Mrs. Maltby’s death. We quote in part as follows:--
Adelia Bennett was born at Watertown, Wis., March 12, 1872, the family moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa, in 1873, where she grew to womanhood, attending the public schools and the high school at Decorah. October 4, 1893, she was married to Frank G. Maltby, and they made their home on a farm in the same neighborhood where they had both grown to years of maturity. In April, 1916, they moved to Northfield, in order to be near their daughter who was attending Carleton college They had bought a residence, which they had fitted up to suit their family needs, and were looking forward to many years of happy life in this community. Mrs. Maltby was a member of the Congregational church, a woman of an energetic and active disposition and exemplary character. In her short residence here she had made a place for herself in community affairs and the whole family had won the friendship and esteem of a wide circle of friends whose sincere sympathy goes out to those who are left to mourn this great loss. Besides her husband and her daughter Ruth, she is survived by a number of relatives.
Among those present from out of the city to attend the last sad rites were her father, L. W. Bennett, and his wife, from Canton, Minn., a nephew, Mr. Howard Whitney of Prosper, Minn.; a brother, Mr. Luther Bennett, and his wife, from Wadena, Minn.; two cousins, Mrs. Scammon and Miss Marsh, of Minneapolis.
The remains were brought to Decorah Saturday last for interment.
