Suzan Kay Brown,77, of Hiawatha, Iowa passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025 surrounded by the Love of her family. Suzan as born on March 14, 1948 in Boone, Iowa to Herbie and Hazel Schweinefus. Suzan grew up in Ossian, Iowa where her parents operated the former Ossian Hotel which is no longer there. Suzan married Curtis Brown on September 13, 1965. They had 57 years of marriage until he passed away on August 9, 2022. They were the parents of 2 children. She was employed for 48 years at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Suzan is survived by her daughter Kathy Brown of Fairfax, Iowa and her children Hunter, Haley, and Ruger; her daughter-in-law Julie (Harrison) Brown and children Stephanie, Sydney, Savannah, Allen, and Becca; 2 sisters Janice Sorensen of Cedar Rapids,and Nancy (Mark) Scheidel of Ossian: brother Duwayne (Georgie Ann) Schweinefus of Decorah, Iowa; sisters-in-law Joyce Langreck of Decorah, and Joanne Schweinefus of Indianola, Iowa in addition to many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Suzan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Allen Brown; brother Conley Schweinefus; grandson Russell "Rusty" Brown and granddaughter Kimberly Brown; and brother-in-law Dwight Sorensen.
A Memorial Service was held to honor her life on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and burial followed in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Suzan spent her life dedicated to her family. The legacy to her family were the many days filled with warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. She will always be remembered for her Love, Laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family but also to her many friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
