Lawrence Drake died yesterday morning, Dec. 7, 1915, at 3:30 at the home of his mother and sister in this city. Death was due to neuritis and heart failure. He had been in poor health since June first.
Lawrence Merriman Drake was born May 6, 1871, at the family homestead in Glenwood twp. His parents were Nathan and Phebe Drake. He was educated at the country school near his boyhood home and at Valder College and Decorah Institute in this city. He was engaged in farming with his father till the latter's death and then conducted the home place himself for a number of years.
The deceased was a man who was loyal to his friends. Not long ago one of his friends said to the writer, "Lawrence Drake will give you the shirt off his back, if he likes you. But if he's against you, he's against you sled length." He took an intelligent interest in public affairs, and for a number of years served as school director in Glenwood twp.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nathan Drake of this city, and by two sisters, Mrs. S.E. Brickner on the home farm, and Miss Drake of this city and by two brothers, Walter of Burlington and Dr. Leonard S. Drake of Chicago. As we write this the funeral arrangements have not been made.
