OBITUARY.
THAYER.
Preston Thayer was born in Pennsylvania, Feb. 22, 1856. He came to Iowa with his parents when a boy. He was married to Mrs. Viola Sherman in the fall of 1886. Two children were born to this union, Herbert Thayer, of Hartington, Neb., and Mrs. Ernest Norman, of Rapid City, S. D. These children, with the wife and mother and step-son, Roy Sherman, survive him and were with him to comfort and care for him in his last illness. He resided at Kendallville and vicinity until the year of 1901. He has resided at Cedar Rapids, Neb., for the last year and peacefully passed away there, Monday, Jan. 12, 1920, at the age of 63 year, 10 months and 21 days.
Preston was a man of sunny disposition and always had a pleasant word for everyone and ready to lend a helping hand at any time. He was respected and loved by all who knew him. He has many relatives and friends here whose sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.
The body was brought here for burial by the side of his mother, who died many years ago. The casket was taken from the train to Bradley’s undertaking parlors in Cresco where a great many old friends went to pay tribute to their old friend.
The funeral was held in the Kendallville church Wednesday afternoon, the Masonic Lodge taking charge of the service, Rev. Nye of Cresco preaching. Mrs. Thayer and family wish to thank all who in any way assisted them at this time.
