OBITUARY.
Mrs. Luman L. Cadwell died at 5:40 o’clock yesterday morning, September 15, at the family home on Maple avenue, after an illness of several months, death being due to paralysis of the lungs. For some time it has been known that Mrs. Cadwell’s days were numbered; but even so, her family and friends were reluctant to give up hope that she might still be spared for future years of companionship, for her kindness as neighbor and friend, and for her devotion to her home and those that have been so dear to her. In all these relations she has exercised a quiet but never failing influence that won respect and confidence from all who knew her. She will be missed, too, from the Relief Corps where she has taken an active part for many years.
Mrs. Cadwell’s maiden name was Anna O. Johnson. She was born on September 8, 1843, in Otsego Co., N. Y., and was married to Luman L. Cadwell on September 16, 1860, at North Adams, Mass. Two children were born to them—Herbert H., who died in 1904 at the age of thirty-four, and Bessie, who died in infancy. Beside her husband she is survived by her adopted daughter, Mrs. George Schulze, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. R. O’Hern and Miss Nellie Johnson of Minneapolis. At the close of the civil war Mr. and Mrs. Cadwell came west, Mr. Cadwell entering the employ of the Milwaukee road, and they established their home in Calmar. Forty years ago they came to Decorah and here they have since resided. Had life been spared to Mrs. Cadwell for another day they might have passed their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary together.
The funeral will be held to-morrow (Friday) afternoon at two o’clock at the house, and interment will be made in Phelps cemetery.
