OBITUARY.
The sudden death of Mrs. E. I. Weiser at her home on west Main street last week Wednesday evening was a shock to her many friends, even to those who had known to what extend she has been afflicted during the illness preceding her passing. Dr. Barfoot had called to see her and left her feeling very comfortable. Her son E. I. Weiser, who was called here by the death of J. J. Marsh, had gone out for a short stay. Shortly before seven o’clock she lapsed into unconsciousness from which she did not revive, the cause of her death being heart disease.
Mrs. Weiser’s maiden name was Mary Louise Van Hoff. She was born on November 15, 1843, in Carlisle, Pa., and came to Decorah in 1862, living with her brother -in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Filbert. She was married in 1864 to Capt. E. I Weiser. Five children were born to them, three of whom survive—E. James Weiser of Fargo, Samuel V. Weiser of Detroit, Minn., and Henry M. Weiser of Hunter, N. D. Walter died at the age of two years and another son died in infancy. During her long life in Decorah Mrs. Weiser sustained close relations to the religious and social life of the community, being a member of the Congregational church and taking an active part in all that pertained to its welfare. Kindness of thought and deed won the friendship of a large circle of acquaintance who will long cherish her memory. The funeral was held on Saturday at two o’clock at the home. Rev. M. Willett officiated and interment was made in Phelps cemetery.
