Lucille O. Smock, 95, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA..

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago St., Decorah, IA 52101, with Pastor Peter Kowitz presiding. Burial will be at the Lutheran cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water Street, Decorah, IA, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the Church.

Lucille Tollefson was born June 11, 1929, in Decorah, IA to Emma and Theodore (Leo) Tollefson. Lucille was the oldest of twelve children. Her surviving siblings are Elaine Wanless, Sandra Langfitt, Leonel Tollefson, Darlene Stoen, Ardyce Wolrab, Jim Tollefson, David Tollefson, and Julie Lubahn.

Lucille grew up going to country school in the Decorah area and graduated from Decorah High School in 1948. Following graduation, she married L.C. Smokey Smock on June 6, 1948. Together they raised eight children Dennis, Daryl, Linda, Vickie, Michael, Charlie, Laurie, and Heather. They later divorced.

Lucille loved all children, especially babies. She spent decades doing day care in Decorah and teaching Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon and Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah.

When Lucille needed additional care due to dementia, she moved to Wellington Skilled Nursing on December 26, 2024. She received wonderful care and love from all the amazing staff at Wellington. She also liked the connections she made with all the kind residents.

Lucille is survived by her children: Dennis Smock (Emmarene), of Decorah, IA. Daryl Smock (Lynn) of Muscatine, IA, Linda Christopherson (John) of Decorah, Vickie Enyart (Hartley) of Waukon, IA, Michael Smock (Renee) of Decorah, Charlie Smock (special friend Kim Yarrington) of Decorah, Laurie Egan (Mike) of Monona, IA and Heather Dieschbourg (Matt) of Decorah. Lucille was blessed by the love of her twenty-four grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents Leo and Emma Tollefson, siblings: Benny Tollefson, Teddy Tollefson, and Vernelle Van Dresar, granddaughter Alane Smock, grandson Adam Christopherson and great grandson Carter Aiels.

With deep appreciation and gratitude, the family wishes to thank Decorah Lutheran Church, Pastor Kowitz, and Pastor Thiele for their many visits, prayers, communion & worship services, to the staff of Wellington Place for their kindness and extraordinary care she received. We are truly grateful.
