Death of Nels N. Fjose.—After two years of patient suffering, Nels N. FJose passed away Monday night about 11:30 o’clock from old age. Mr. Fjose was born in Norway May 2, 1832, being 82 years of age at the time of his death. After spending six years in California, Mr. Fjose settled in Winneshiek county, living here forty years or more and being one of North Madison’s oldest settlers and one of our most energetic farmers and honest and upright citizens. He is survived by his widow and six children—Mrs. Steen Johnson of Ridgeway, Olaf of Mahnomen, Minn., Mrs. Moen of Marionette, Wis., Norman of Edmunds, N. D., Nels and Nettie, who live at home. Mrs. Moen, Olaf and Norman were not here for the funeral. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at one o’clock from the house and 2:30 from the Madison church, Rev. Jordahl of Ridgeway officiating. Mr. Fjose was carried to his last resting place by Hans Melaas, Ole Gilbertson, Ole Tweeter, Ole Christen, Gunder Blakeberg and C. O. Blakeberg. Among the outsiders in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hagen and Tom Qualley of Decorah, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Benson, Annon Anderson, Oliver Benson and Edwin Kjorlein of Orleans and Christ Owen of Ridgeway. The bereaved widow and children have the sympathy of the entire community.
