Mary Lambert, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Smith Lambert, was born in Augusta County, Va., March 17, 1828, and died in Castalia, Iowa, Nov. 13, 1914. In 1829 she moved with her parents to Madison county, Ind., where she grew to womanhood. On Oct. 11, 1849, she was united in marriage with Abram Riggs. To this union were born four children, Jane, Mattie, Albert B. and Elba O. In 1856 Mr. and Mrs. Riggs came to Iowa and settled on a farm east of Castalia. Thirteen years later they became residents of the town of Castalia, where they spent the remainder of their lives. In 1897 Mr. Riggs preceded his wife to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Riggs has been, since her 13th year, a devoted member of the United Brethren church. She has been exceptionally faithful in church attendance and interested in all phases of church work. The name of “Aunt Polly Riggs” has become a synonym for kindliness and unselfishness and everyone who knew her will feel a sense of personal loss of her departure. She leaves to mourn her loss a brother, Abram Lambert, one son, E. O Riggs, two daughters, Miss Jane Riggs and Mrs. S. A. Hunter, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
