OBITUARY.
After an illness of two years or more Anton P. Rude died on Sunday last, death being due to cancer of the esophagus. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at two o’clock at the United Lutheran church, preceded by prayer at the home, and interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery. Rev. O. E. Schmidt officiated.
Mr. Rude was born on May 23, 1857, in Christiania, Norway, and came to America thirty-three years ago. In 1882 he was married to Miss Anna Groff and they have since made their home in Winneshiek county, residing on a farm near Decorah. Two years ago they sold their farm and moved to town. Of eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Rude, ten survive. They are Mrs. Florence Dreschler of St. Paul, Mrs. T. H. Taggen of Muscatine, Hilda, Mabel, Lily, Rose, Myrtle, Julia, Nellie and Esther.
During his life in this community Mr. Rude was industrious and bore a reputation for integrity and good citizenship In their bereavement the family have the sympathy of many friends.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Lutheran Decorah Cemetery shows he was born in 1859 which does not agree with the above.
